Granby’s new Town Manager, Mike Walsh, was sworn in at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday March 4, 2024. Mike comes to Granby with 40 years of finance experience, and the last 30 years in local and State government. His work experience includes accounting, financial management, risk management, and insurance. His education and early professional background are in classic accounting, working for an accounting firm and manufacturing businesses.
Mike’s time with the State government includes working in the Office of Policy and Management. He oversaw retirement and security, represented financial concerns regarding the State’s Covid-19 pandemic response, and analyzed the State employee benefits and pensions. Mike also served on the CT State Contracting Standards Board as a member and Chairman. This board seeks to ensure that state contracting and procurement requirements are understood and carried out in a manner that is open, cost effective, efficient and consistent with State and Federal statutes, rules and regulations.
Mike spent 23 years as the Director of Finance in East Hartford, CT, and then returned as their Mayor for 2 years from 2021-2023. As Director of Finance, Mike managed an annual budget of over $200 million, and facilitated a strong position in their bonding, tax collection, expense management, and financial reporting. As their Mayor, Mike prepared and executed a new strategic plan for development, infrastructure, and programs.
On the personal side, Mike has interests in golf and bowling, and enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
