A Presidential Preference Primary is an election where voters in a major political party vote for the candidate of that party that they would like to be their presidential candidate in the upcoming General Election.
There are 3 voting options to choose from for this Presidential Preference Primary election. The options are:
A. Early Voting
B. Absentee Ballot
OR
C. Election Day Voting
A new option for voting in 2024 is early voting. Early voting may only be done in-person, not via mail or drop box. Once an early voting ballot is cast, it cannot be changed. Anyone can participate in early voting without a specific reason.
Early voters will be verified as an eligible voter. You will receive a ballot with an envelope. After selection, early voting ballots will be sealed, and sealed envelopes will be placed in secure ballot boxes. These ballots will be secured and unopened until Election Day.
If you do not wish to vote early, you can still choose to vote either using an absentee ballot, if qualified, or choose to vote in-person on Election Day as usual.
The election official at your Early Voting location will record that you've cast your ballot, preventing you from voting early at any other location or time, submitting an absentee ballot, or voting on Election Day.
There are restrictions on same day registration to vote in the primaries, see more details at myvote.ct.gov.
